Most visitors to Dalyan see only the harbour, the riverboats and the tombs. This walking tour reveals the town that locals know and love. Your guide — a lifelong Dalyan resident — leads you through backstreets where traditional stone houses neighbour citrus gardens, stopping at five family-run establishments for tastings. Try freshly baked village bread from a wood-fired oven, sample local olive oils and cheeses at a riverside deli, taste gözleme (Turkish stuffed flatbread) made before your eyes, and finish with Turkish coffee and baklava at a cafe that has been run by the same family for three generations. Along the way, hear stories of Dalyan's transformation from a sleepy fishing village to an eco-tourism hub, learn about the turtle conservation movement that saved Iztuzu Beach from development, and discover why this town has attracted artists, writers and free spirits for decades. This is Dalyan at its most authentic.
Meet your guide at a central riverside cafe. Introduction to Dalyan's history over Turkish coffee and a map of the day's route.
Enter a working bakery where bread is still baked in a traditional wood oven. Taste warm bread with local honey and learn about village baking traditions.
Visit a family deli that has been pressing olive oil for 40 years. Sample three local olive oils, village cheese and sun-dried tomatoes.
Watch a local "teyze" (auntie) roll and stuff gözleme with spinach, cheese and potato. Taste it hot from the griddle with ayran.
Stroll through the daily fish market where boats unload their catch. Your guide explains local species and sustainable fishing practices.
End at a 60-year-old coffee house run by the founder's grandson. Turkish coffee brewed on sand, served with homemade baklava and stories.
Receive a small gift bag of local products. Your guide provides recommendations for the best independent restaurants and shops for the rest of your stay.
Riverside Cafe "Dalyan Kahvesi" — 50 metres north of the main harbour bridge, on the waterfront. Your guide wears a green lanyard.

This tour made us fall in love with Dalyan. Our guide, Ayşe, was born here and knows everyone. The bakery owner remembered her from childhood. The gözleme was the best we have tasted in Turkey. By the end we felt like locals, not tourists. Do this on your first day!

Je pensais que ce serait un tour gastronomique standard mais c'était bien plus. L'histoire de la conservation des tortues était fascinante. La famille qui fait le café turc depuis 60 ans m'a donné envie de rester. Un moment magique que je n'oublierai jamais.

Great way to spend a morning. The food was delicious and the guide's stories really brought the town to life. The fish market was interesting — learned a lot about sustainable fishing. Only suggestion is to add a stop at a local craft shop. Otherwise perfect.
