Ferry Times, Cost, Visa Requirements & What to Do
Rhodes is one of the most popular day trips from Marmaris — and the search term "Marmaris to Rhodes ferry" is consistently one of the most searched travel queries about the resort. The appeal is obvious: a 50-minute ferry ride transports you from Turkey to a Greek island, adding a completely different country and culture to your holiday.
Rhodes Old Town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site — a perfectly preserved medieval walled city that genuinely delivers the wow factor. Greek food, duty-free shopping, Byzantine churches, Ottoman mosques and Norman palaces coexist within walls that have stood since the 14th century.
Rhodes is an EU territory (Greece). UK passport holders do not need a visa, but you must bring a valid passport — you\'ll pass through passport control in both directions. A driving licence or EU ID card is not accepted.

Make the most of 5–6 hours on the island
One of the best-preserved medieval walled cities in Europe. Walk the cobblestone Street of the Knights, visit the Grand Master's Palace, and explore the Ottoman Quarter with its mosques and bazaars. UNESCO World Heritage.
The legendary harbour supposedly once spanning with the Colossus of Rhodes. Three windmills and the deer statues (Marmaris's twin city symbol) mark the entrance. Great for an evening walk.
The best beach within walking distance of Rhodes Town — clean, well-organised and right next to the casino. Better beaches exist at Faliraki and Lindos, but Elli is easily reachable on a day trip.
A 2nd-century BC hilltop acropolis with stunning Aegean views. Requires a 20-minute taxi/bus from Rhodes Town — possible on a day trip if you set off from the ferry quickly.
Rhodes Old Town is excellent for jewellery, leather goods, ceramics and duty-free spirits. Try Greek food at one of the tavernas inside the walls — fresh seafood is significantly cheaper than in Marmaris.
