Quick Answer

The best time to charter a yacht in Turkey is May, June or September. You get warm weather (22–32°C), warm seas (20–26°C), fewer crowds than peak season, and prices that are 15–30% lower than July and August. If you want guaranteed sunshine and don't mind crowds, July and August are excellent too.

Month-by-Month Breakdown

Turkey's yacht charter season runs from April to October. Here's what to expect each month:

May & June — The Sweet Spot

May and June are widely considered the best months for a yacht charter in Turkey by experienced sailors. The Meltemi winds — the strong northerly winds that can make sailing uncomfortable in July and August — are not yet at full strength, meaning calmer seas and more comfortable sailing conditions.

Air temperatures reach a comfortable 22–32°C, the sea warms to 20–24°C, and the landscape is lush and green after the winter rains. Charter prices are typically 15–25% lower than peak season, and the most popular anchorages are pleasantly uncrowded.

July & August — Peak Season

July and August offer guaranteed sunshine with virtually zero chance of rain. Sea temperatures reach 27–28°C — perfect for swimming, snorkelling and water sports. However, the Meltemi winds can be strong (Force 4–6) in the Aegean, which experienced sailors enjoy but can be uncomfortable for beginners.

Popular anchorages are busier, charter prices are at their highest, and you should book 6–12 months in advance to secure your preferred gulet. That said, the Turkish coast is large enough that you can always find a quiet bay even in peak season.

September — Best Value Month

September is arguably the best value month for a Turkey yacht charter. The summer crowds have thinned, prices drop by 15–30%, but the weather remains excellent. Air temperatures stay at 28–33°C, the sea is at its warmest (25–26°C), and the Meltemi winds ease significantly.

Many experienced charter guests specifically choose September for these reasons. The light is also particularly beautiful in September — golden and warm — making it a favourite month for photographers.

April & October — Shoulder Season Gems

April and October offer the lowest prices and fewest crowds. The weather is mild and pleasant, the sea is swimmable (17–23°C), and many charter guests find the quieter atmosphere more appealing than peak season. These months suit couples, nature lovers, and those who prefer a more peaceful experience. Some gulets close for the season after October, so availability is more limited.

May, June and September offer the best combination of warm weather, calm seas, fewer crowds and competitive prices. July and August are peak season with guaranteed sunshine but higher costs and more boats.

Can you charter a yacht in Turkey in April?

Yes. April is a great shoulder season option with mild temperatures (18–22°C), very few crowds and lower charter prices. The sea is cooler (around 17°C) but still swimmable for many guests.

Is October too late for a yacht charter in Turkey?

October is still excellent for yacht charters in Turkey. Temperatures remain warm (22–27°C), the sea stays around 23°C, crowds have gone and prices drop significantly. Many experienced sailors prefer October.

How far in advance should I book a yacht charter in Turkey?
